Hi everyone, my name is Amy Rhodes. I grew up in Memphis, TN in the USA. One of my first clear memories is when I was 6 years old. My home church at the time had missions emphasis Sunday and there was a parade of missionaries holding flags representing their host countries. I was mesmerized and turned to my mom and said, “When I grow up, I want to be one of THOSE people!” And it never changed. As I grew up, God continued to break my heart for people in foreign lands who never had the chance to hear the Gospel. I went on several short-term mission trips, each time coming home more excited to go back and live overseas one day.

I got my degree from the University of Memphis with English with ESL/Linguistics concentration, for the sake of being able to go anywhere in the world. During that time I enjoyed getting to know many international students studying English at the university. I loved spending my time with them helping them adjust to American culture, being their friends, learning about their cultures, and sharing the Gospel with them. It was there that God really focused my heart onto Asian people. I found that most of them had never heard anything about Jesus before, and this was like an emergency call for me to respond and go with God’s powerful Gospel to see Him rescue them through my obedience.

On March 7th, 2012 my family and home church of Faith Baptist Bartlett sent me out as a long-term missionary to China. Serving with Within Reach Global, I lived in beautiful China and loved my heart out there for nearly 6 years, seeing unreached people groups and university students saved, discipled, and equipped. Also, during those years, God really focused my attention to the needs of women and lack of women’s ministries in Asia. He also gave me a deep love and passion for Nepal and connected me with several amazing indigenous pastors there wanting to spread the Gospel to the unreached villages and start women’s ministries there. I started going there one month every year to partner with Nepali pastors to reach and equip women all over Nepal, which I continue to do.

In December 2017, due to God’s leading and also increased pressure from the Chinese government, I moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand where I currently live. The Thai people are 0.75% reached and most have never heard the Gospel. I volunteer under the Haven Foundation (a Christian outreach foundation). My role is developing and implementing women’s outreaches and discipleship training that can be reproduced throughout Thailand and Burma. The SouthEast Asian women are often abused and devalued. Many work in the sex industry, and many are suicidal. Due to men often being absent because of migrant working and substance abuse, women become the main influencers in their family. God showed me how if we can teach women their value and the Gospel, that we also get their children—boys and girls. So through reaching women, it is actually women’s ministry, children’s ministry, and men’s ministry all in one. Then the whole country will come to be discipled in the Gospel!

Thanks for partnering with me to share the Gospel and disciple some of the most unreached people in the world. I pray that as you give, you can also see your feet on the ground overseas bringing the Gospel where it has never been. !
